LIFE AFTER PENN STATE:

CAREER DIRECTIONS AND GRADUATE EDUCATION

Some majors pursue careers in business, law, government, publishing, and the arts. Many CAMS majors proceed to graduate school in Classics or in such disciplines as archaeology, art history, conservation and museum studies, comparative literature, history, law, theology, and religious studies. Graduate work is normally required for teaching and research at a college or university or for museum and library work. Students may choose to combine continued graduate work in CAMS disciplines with graduate technical education--for example: a master's program in classics and a master's program in information/library science, archive, or museum studies.

Those who prefer to teach high school must satisfy the Pennsylvania State Department of Education certification requirements for secondary education. For further information, contact the office of the Coordinator for Teacher Education Programs in the Penn State College of Education (Chambers Building): (814) 865-2197.

Students planning to attend law school or other professional school following graduation should consult with the College of the Liberal Arts Pre-Professional Coordinator in 136 Sparks Building: (814) 865-2545. This office can provide expert advice in selecting courses and in preparing for the LSAT or other required examinations.

The College of the Liberal Arts provides a variety of career development programs for students, including field trips and meetings with alumni in various careers. The Academic Student Services Center (ASSC) in 136 Sparks Building-(814) 865-2545-can provide information and registration forms.
