Welcome to the Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies

The Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (CAMS) provides a home within the University for the study of the ancient Mediterranean world, including Egypt, Greece, Rome, Anatolia, Israel, Mesopotamia, and North Africa. CAMS offers the best of a traditional humanistic education, intimate access to a faculty of international prominence, and state of the art instruction and research tools. For general information about the department, click the "What is CAMS?" link above left.

The resources of the CAMS department include a departmental library and access to computer websites with CD-ROM technology and software applications suitable for the exploration of the literature and societies of ancient Mediterranean civilization.

In addition, students have the unique opportunity to participate in Penn State's International Programs. CAMS-sponsored programs involve travel to major archaeological sites and museums. Programs include study in Athens, Rome, Egypt, Turkey, and Israel.

The head of the department is Dr. Paul Harvey (pbh1@psu.edu).

The Graduate Officer of the department is Dr. Gary Knoppers (gxk7@psu.edu).
